Product Description
Jaggery is a natural sweetener made by the concentration of sugarcane or palm juice. It is a dark, coarse, unrefined sugar that comes in one solid block and can have a consistency as soft as butter or as solid as fudge. Jaggery, accounts for 50 percent of the sugar eaten in India, Burma, Sri Lanka (hakuru) and Thailand (nam taan oi).It is processed by a method similar to making maple syrup. The sweet sap from the sugarcane/palm is boiled down while several people help stir the steadily thickening syrup. It is more robust in taste than white sugar and more nutritious as it contains iron and other minerals.
